Exercise 05: Social Media Advertising – Motion

Posted on December 15, 2025

To wrap up promoting my app, I was tasked with creating two short form narrative videos that could be used on any major social media platform. When tackling a project like this, that covers the conversation around female safety, it’s hard to not read some truly disturbing facts.

First Social Media Clip. Showcasing the alarming facts around women’s safety in taxis (R. Dungan, Aug 2025). Created using Canva (Canva, 2025).

The first video I knew I wanted to create, was an impactful piece aimed at addressing one of these harrowing statistics. Fun fact for those at home and by fun, I mean horrible, did you know that every eight minutes a woman reports some form of sexual assault or rape when using the taxi company Uber (Uber, 2025) (R. Dungan, Aug 2025). As a woman, that’s terrifying. When creating this video, I wanted to highlight that feeling of unease most women feel when alone in a taxi. Whilst I understand the importance of branding when it comes to components such as colour and aesthetic, this was one of the instances I felt storytelling was more effective. In order to highlight my message as clear as possible, I ended up changing the ‘8 minutes’ to a bright red, allowing it to linger throughout the clips of women. It was only at the end of the video, I felt it appropriate to advertise the brands logo and slogan. Making sure to incorporate a call-to-action through the use of a ‘download the app’ feature, demonstrating both an Apple and Android version.

Second Social Media Clip. Showcasing the joys being a woman whilst staying safe. Created using Canva (Canva, 2025).

In order to not have both my videos focused on the fear element of safety, I chose to lighten the mood in my second clip. Whilst horrible things do happen in the world, I wanted to showcase some of the joys of being a woman. Before finding any relevant clips, I felt the audio was more crucial in this video as apposed to the previous. In order to relate more to the younger side of my demographic, I chose to incorporate my brand matrix. This meant leaning more towards modern pop songs. Due to my Canva Pro subscription (Canva, 2025), I was able to access Benson Boone’s relatively new song ‘Mystical Magical’ (B. Boone, May 2025). Whilst this was great for my younger users, I also felt the songs message encapsulated the theme of this video. Next came visuals, with my main focus being happiness. I chose to create the narrative of a young woman having an amazing day, cutting to the taxi ride home demonstrating her using the app to feel safe. In order to achieve this, I used multiple short form visuals that all fit within my brand personality and matrix. Whilst I couldn’t render in the app on the woman’s phone at the end, I still feel the storytelling in clear. Much like my previous clip, I chose to instil my call-to-action at the end of the advert as not to impede on my videos narrative. This was applied in the same format of a black background and the logo in the centre, with an interactive ‘download the app’ element at the bottom of the page. By adding a soft fade in effect to the final frames text and visual, I was able to keep within the designs hierarchy.

Overall, I feel both these clips would assimilate well into any social media platform, as each one addresses a different age bracket and audience awareness of safety.
